Amazing restaurant, one of the best in Midlothian. Food is delicious and there is always a good selection on the menu, even though it's not a huge menu. Staff are very attentive, polite and friendly. Prices are really good as well, especially for the quality of food that you receive. It's all locally sourced apparently. Totally recommend.

The sun inn brought sun into my life this week! We were recommended it by the staff at. “Adventure in the Meadow” and we were not let down. The food is divine and so beautifully presented. Even their pre-starter of bread, olives and tomato relish is SO good. I could have eaten tons of it as a main meal! My husband had beautifully cooked lamb and I had sons gorgeous duck. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the setting is so cosy. It’s a wee hidden gem that you might not come across in many circumstances but it’s worth the visit! Make it part of your journey! It’s not that cheap but I guess that reflect the quality of the food. Not budget average pub food – its worth paying a bit more for something a bit different.

I’ve eaten here a couple of times, every dish has been memorable. Very highly recommended. The steak tartare prepared three-ways is almost certainly the finest course I’ve eaten anywhere.

Amazing food served with care, everything down to meet and greet was addressed to make it a memorable evening out.
You need to book well in advance as the word is getting around that this place is definitely a ‘gem’.
The taste and presentation of food was sumptous and service at the right level without being over the top. Fish pie to die for and obviously nothing comes out a ‘polly bag’.
Cant wait until my next visit.

Completely agree with the previous reviewers. Not a fan of the "Gastropub" tag, but the Sun Inn is so much more than that. The food is absolutely superb - freshly cooked, more often than not locally sourced and some nice, imaginative touches on the menu without being pretentious.

As said by the previous review, don't let the title Gastro Pub put you off! This fantastic eaterie serves wonderful food at realistic prices!
Went for lunch on a Sunday. We were given the lunch menu (2 courses for £12.95) and the regular lunch menu. We all opted for the 2 course menu as it included roast beef or lamb!
A good choice of starters and mains. Portions were generous and the service fantastic without being over the top!The yorkshire puddings were brill as were the duck fat roast potatoes! The veggies were crisp & fresh but not raw! I would've liked the lamb slightly pink but when catering for such a high turnover of diners, I can see how this is not an option! We were given a loyalty card which gives you a free bottle of wine on your 6th visit! As we were driving we opted for soft drinks which were refreshingly realistically priced. We also asked for a jug of iced water.
The interior is open plan, bright and airy, far from the dingy dark interior of days gone by!
A bit out of the way but well worth a visit, booking definitely advised! Car park at rear.

Terrific pub/restaurant (calls itself a "gastropub", but don't let that put you off). Eaten there several times lately and we find ourselves going back ever more frequently. Always busy and deservedly so. One of only two or three restaurants outside the City centre but still within a short drive that we can wholeheartedly recommend.
