Dalkeith residents who remember the launch of the ground-breaking twinning arrangement with Jarnac in 1960 are being urged to come forward with their memories.
As it prepares for next year's 50th anniversary celebrations, the Dalkeith/Jarnac Twinning Group wants to hear from anyone who has tales to tell of the early years of contact with their French counterparts.
Treasurer Alan Mason told The Advertiser: "Many people from Dalkeith and Jarnac have formed lifetime friendships, some have married and others have even moved to Jarnac lock stock and barrel."
The highlights of next year's 50th anniversary celebrations will be a nine-day twinning group trip to Jarnac from July 11, with a group from France making the reverse journey from August 23 to 30.
A grand reunion of people previously involved in the twinning group is planned for Dalkeith on August 26.
Anyone who has information on the early days of the Dalkeith-Jarnac twinning arrangement, or who would like to take part in the 2010 trip to France should call Mr Mason on 0131 660 3702.
