Designs are absolutely rubbish at Lasswade High!
Lasswade High School's latest fashion event gave a whole new meaning to the term 'trashy'.
Their first 'Trash Fashion Show', organised by the Eco Schools group, saw some stylish creations grace the catwalk – all concocted from second hand or recycled materials. More than 200 people packed into the assembly hall to see outfits designed by the students.
The event kicked off with school band Velocity playing to warm up the crowd and as the show got under way, music was provided by Ed Jupp on the decks, giving the event a retro feel – in keeping with the reuse, reduce, recycle message behind the event.
Kendal Fewster received the best design award and the most wearable outfit award went to a costume designed by Helen King and modelled by Ailis Dale.
The award for the most imaginative outfit was won for a glamorous little-black-dress with a difference – made out of bin liners and black tape designed by Rachel Stewart and modelled by Jodie Heckles.
An outfit designed using materials including crisp packets and bubble wrap by Emily Pollock won a prize for use of the most recycled materials. It was modelled by Alice Tod.
The most creative outfit was judged to be one designed by Robyn Martin and modelled by Becky McLaren, intricately fashioned out of newspaper with matching bag and glasses.
Deputy head teacher, Rosemary Mitchell said: "The event raised money for Eco Schools projects and importantly raised awareness that you don't have to spend a fortune on outfits to look good – reusing, reducing and recycling is cool."
