Penicuik pupils celebrate Robert Burns

Flying the flag for Homecoming Scotland are pupils from Strathesk Primary, Penicuik.

P3 to P7 pupils took part in a poetry competition celebrating the work of Robert Burns. Homecoming Scotland commemorates the 250th anniversary of Burns' birth.

The class winners were: P3 — 1, Aleisha Leishman; 2, Ryan Jones; 3, Holly Fyfe; P4 — 1, Leo Robertson; 2, Abbie Carruthers, Adam Hodge; 3, Emily Mitchell; P5 — 1, Megan Lind, Blair Conway; 2, Caleb Cuthbert, Kieran Early; P6 — 1, Caitlin Robertson; 2, Bethany Taylor; 3, Laura Bathgate; P7 — 1, Matthew Paton; 2, Max Robertson, Ruaridh Laird.

Meanwhile, the school held a successful family Scots night with local ceilidh instructor Annabelle Oates. Pupils provided poetry recitations and singing.

In recent weeks, Siobhan Miller, a fourth year student at the Royal Scottish Academy for Music and Drama, has been working with P7 pupils on a series of workshops.
