Penicuik youth award to be launched

The Penicuik Citizen of the Year is to be extended to include a new youth award.

Penicuik and District Community Council is keen to recognise the efforts of both adults and young people, who involve themselves in community service.

The Citizen of the Year is presented to an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the local community either in the previous year or over a period of years. Individuals should have a proposer and seconder.

This year letters will be sent to Penicuik and Beeslack High Schools and all youth groups seeking nominations for the youth award.

Again, the community council is keen to praise the hard work carried out by the town's youngsters.

Nominations should be sent to community council secretary Mel Spence, 37 Bavelaw Crescent, Penicuik, EH26 9AU, before the March 26 deadline.

A committee, chaired by Advertiser chief reporter Janet Bee, will consider the nominations and the Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year will be announced in May.
