Porcelain plea

Could anyone in the area of Roslin Glen help me please?

My son in law, a keen angler, fishes down Roslin Glen and at a certain spot there was a huge tree that has now been felled by the river and bad weather.

Before it fell, the water had washed away most of the roots and this allowed a way to retrieve many pieces of broken porcelain.

As a collector of porcelain I was amazed at the places these came from – "Buchan" Portobello (now in Crieff), "Grosvenor" from Glasgow and a piece of stoneware bottle used for aerated water from Abbey Street, Edinburgh.

There were pieces from Staffordshire and other English potteries.

Does anyone know how they got there? In their original state they could have been worth a shilling or two.

Or are these rejects dumped here many years ago? Either way I'd love to find out.

He also found two building bricks, heavier and bigger than the one of nowadays.

They had the distinct name of "Hood" on them. I do believe I know these came from Rosewell Brickworks owned by that great engineer Archibald Hood who at one time also owned Rosewell Colliery.

I would appreciate any information on the porcelain. Thank you.
