DALKEITH: Midlothian County Planning Committee, by 12 votes to 5, have refused permission to Contemporary Coffee Bars to change the use of the front ground floor shop to a restaurant and the front first floor office and the rear ground floor store to a gaming club, at 1 Duke Street, Dalkeith.

NEWTONGRANGE: Angry parents claim their children’s education is being threatened by poor staffing levels at the village primary school.

1998

PATHHEAD: A 13-week-old baby boy from Pathhead was doing well in hospital in Manchester this week after receiving a vital bone marrow donation from his four-year-old sister. Shortly after his birth, Shaun Scott was discovered to be suffering from a bone marrow deficiency.
