1963

ROSLIN: Fifty-year-old Penicuik miner James McCabe is one of three miners who are in Bangour Hospital with burns after the gas explosion 1800 feet underground at the Moat Pit, Roslin, last week. Two were able to walk to the surface and the third man was carried on a stretcher.

1988

MIDLOTHIAN: The need for more police officers in Midlothian has been highlighted as concern grows about vandalism and street violence in the district. Officers also expressed concern about the strain placed on their resources.

1998

DALKEITH: A former care assistant from Dalkeith, who has been playing bingo for some 30 years, has scooped more than £105,000 at the Carlton Club in Dalkeith. Lucky Woodburn resident Isabel West (59) said: “I still feel numb. It hasn’t had time to sink in yet, it’s such a lot of money.”
