1963

BONNYRIGG: The housing committee of Bonnyrigg Town Council are preparing a purge of all unsightly and dilapidated garages in the burgh. The subject was brought up at a meeting of the Housing Committee on Monday evening, when Provost John Moffat presided.

1988

NEWTONGRANGE: District councillors have narrowly voted to refuse planning permission for stock car racing at the Victoria Park football stadium in Newtongrange on 30 to 35 days per year.

1998

LASSWADE: A teenage boy from Lasswade and his friend jumped into the River Esk and held his nine-year-old brother above water until the fire service arrived. Andrew Brooks of Westmill Court, had fallen into the water near the Laird and Dog pub after trying to retrieve his football.
