1964

BONNYRIGG: A revolutionary type of council house is now being built in Bonnyrigg. The four and three apartment homes on Dundas Street are the first of their kind to be built by a local authority in the East of Scotland.

1989

PENICUIK: The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, as Gertie and John Williams, of Penicuik, discovered. For the couple, who celebrated their diamond wedding at the weekend, met at the Portobello chip shop where Gertie worked.

1999

DALKEITH: The battle may be lost but the war is not over in the campaign to have a purpose-built school campus. Midlothian’s education director Donald MacKay confirmed that plans were going ahead despite the council’s failure to secure PFI funding.
