1964

DALKEITH: Dalkeith Town Council have unanimously agreed that a “peace” tree from Japan should be planted at Jarnac Court when the shopping and housing centre is officially opened in August. But there may be opposition to the proposal.

1989

LOANHEAD: Loanhead and District Community Council is to investigate the necessity for advertising boards in the town centre. The boardings have been in the town for many years and now council members are concerned at the amount of graffiti they have attracted.

1999

LASSWADE: The ballot boxes are being filled today at Lasswade High School as pupils decide who they would like to see heading Scotland’s new parliament. The youngsters have been giving up their lunch breaks to attend meetings where they have been asking fellow pupils and candidates what they are going to be doing for Midlothian.
