Stories from our files
DALKEITH: An interesting event was held in the Cross Keys Hotel, Dalkeith, on May 15. It was a social function to mark 50 years of active service of ex-Provost James Lean.
MONKTONHALL: Monktonhall Colliery’s workforce is standing firm in the fight to save the pit from closure. A meeting last week with senior NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) and British Coal Officials in Nottinghamshire will be followed by another meeting, hopefully this week, to discuss the pit.
PENICUIK: Penicuik’s newly elected MSP Ian Jenkins was rolling up his sleeves for some hard work at the town’s Oxfam shop on Tuesday afternoon. To mark Volunteer Week this week, the local Oxfam had invited Mr Jenkins to be a VIP volunteer.
