1964

DALKEITH: Free sporting facilities may become an established feature in Dalkeith if a proposal by Provost James Quinn is acted upon by the Town Council. The provost has proposed the abolition of all charges for bowls, tennis and putting at King’s Park. He said the council would lose little money.

1989

LOANHEAD: Mavisbank House could be saved from “death by neglect” if the Government goes ahead with plans to acquire the property for a period of safekeeping. Hopes of reviving the dilapidated 18th century building were revived last week with the Secretary of State for Scotland’s proposal.

1999

LOANHEAD: The expected traffic congestion generated by the new IKEA store will cost Loanhead haulier firms thousands of pounds, it was claimed this week. Concerns have been raised over vehicles caught in congestion.
