1964

NEWTONGRANGE: Newbattle District Council has decided to present a three-pronged proposal to Midlothian County Council in a bid to cut down on rat infestation in its area. The matter was raised at the last meeting regarding several complaints made about rats in the Suttislea area of Newtongrange.

1989

TEMPLE: Proposals have been put forward to set up a charitable trust, including representatives of the local community, to takeover the guardianship of Temple of Old Kirk. The move comes after Midlothian District Council agreed to award guardianship to individuals.

1999

LOANHEAD: One of Loanhead’s longest established businesses, Gordon MacDonald and Sons, Butchers, is to close. The butcher’s shop was established more than 25 years ago but a variety of issues have prompted the shop at 20 Clerk Street to close.
