DALKEITH: Mr Alex Moffat, President of the National Union of Mineworkers’, officially opened the new £18,000 Woodburn Miners’ Welfare Club at a ceremony there on Thursday afternoon.

1975

BONNYRIGG: Local farmer Mr D I Barr, a past president of the Council of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs, was last week in Berlin appointed president of Comite D’Etente.

1990

PENICUIK: The workforce at Edinburgh Crystal was dealt a body blow last week when the 250 employees at the factory were told to work one week in every two. Coloroll - Edinburgh Crystal’s parent company -said “sales have not matched planned levels due to the national downturn in spending”.
