1965

DALKEITH: Dalkeith busmen are to strike again this Saturday to bring attention to their pay claim. They are also to continue striking one day per week until their claim is honoured. Their strike last Thursday caused real problems for local people, who had to find any method of transport available to get to and from work.

1975

LOANHEAD: Local traders have declared war on the giant supermarket company ASDA - in an urgent bid to stop plans for a new hypermarket near Loanhead. Shopkeepers claim the superstore would rake in £2.5 million a year and seriously threaten their livelihood.

1990

HILLEND: The Secretary of State for Scotland has dismissed an appeal against refusal of planning permission for a house at Hillend Filling Station.
