1965

ROSLIN: A delegation from Roslin Colliery Consultative Committee met members of Bonnyrigg and Lasswade Town Council to discuss the question of making use of local coal fields facilities in heating the swimming pool.

1975

PENICUIK: Alex Cowan and Sons Valleyfield Paper Mill, Penicuik’s largest employer, could close by the end of the summer putting 430 men and women out of work. The fate of the mill is almost sealed with its parent company, Reed Paper UK, announcing last week that the mill has “no long term viability”.

1990

LASSWADE: Regional councillors have agreed to make an exception to their policy to allow a multi-million pound “Tropical World” in Midlothian to go ahead. The scheme would replace the existing Butterfly World at Dobbies Melville Garden Centre.
