1965

DALKEITH: The scene is now set for curtain up next week on Jarnac Court shopping centre’s opening. French guests from Dalkeith’s twin town of Jarnac will attend the event with the Minister of State, Mr George Willis. The big day is on June 5.

1975

PENICUIK: Regional councillors may become redundant - that is the forecast made by the chairman of Penicuik and District branch of the SNP. Chairman James Heggie was speaking at a special meeting called by the branch to discuss community councils.

1990

MIDLOTHIAN: An electronic payment network is being set up to replace rent collectors in Midlothian’s smaller towns and villages. First to benefit from the scheme, which will allow council house rents to be paid in shops, will be tenants in Danderhall and Gorebridge where the system will be introduced later this year.
