LOANHEAD: County councillor John Gaynor, ex-Provost, who received a quarterly electricity bill for £6491 14s 5d said that he was “shocked” when he saw how much the bill was for.

1975

PENICUIK: A major trade union has claimed that Reed Paper and Board only bought Cowan’s Valleyfield Mill, Penicuik, to strip it of its mercantile assets.

1990

MIDLOTHIAN: Taxi fares in Midlothian are set to rise next month. A tariff increase proprosed by Midlothian Taxi Owners’ Association, was approved in principle by the district’s general purposes committee last week. The proposed tariff include an increase in the initial hire charge from 80p to 90p.
