MAYFIELD: Following reports that the Easthouses-Mayfield children’s gala day may have to be discontinued through lack of support, the gala day organisers received a letter from Greenock offering the services of a flute band for the event.

1975

PENICUIK: Controversial proposals to set up a caravan site near Auchendinny have received the thumbs down from Midlothian Planning Committee.

1990

MONKTONHALL: Monktonhall Colliery will not be re-opened to cater for Scottish Power’s request for more coal to allow it to export electricity south of the border. The company will instead accommodate the need for the extra coal with supplies from Longannet Power Station and open cast mines.
