1966

BONNYRIGG: Schoolchildren in Bonnyrigg and Lasswade will be warned by their teachers to stay away from sandpits, following the death of a 13-year-old boy at Sandburn Quarry, between Edinburgh and Bonnyrigg, on Sunday. The boy died from his injuries on the way to hospital.

1991

PENICUIK: Planning consent has been given for what will be the most costly reclamation scheme ever seen in Midlothian. Scottish Enterprise has been given the go-ahead for the rehabiliation of the Valleyfield papermill site.

2006

BONNYRIGG: A sculpture honouring the late Scottish miners’ leader Michael McGahey is to be unveiled in Bonnyrigg George V Park. Midlothian Trades Union Council have been overwhelmed by the support for their appeal to commission the sculpture.
