To her horror, Buddy was found by a neighbour six days later, trapped inside a locked Audi round the corner from her home in Shandon Place on Sunday, 4 October.

In a frantic bid to help rescue the poor puss, Caron contacted police and put an appeal on social media to help find the car’s owner to set him free.

After about six painful hours of waiting for a response, the vehicle owner was finally reached at about 6pm that same day, and Buddy found himself back in Caron’s arms once again.

"He was very hungry and hoovered up tins of tuna when we got back home,” she said.

"He was also very dehydrated, but I gave him plenty of water and he’s safe now.”

The relieved pet owner said the car which Buddy was found in was linked to an Edinburgh business.

Fortunately, after seeking police assistance, officers managed to track down the owner, who lived nearby.

When asked about how she thought Buddy found himself trapped in the car she replied: “He’s just very nosey!”

Caron thanked the community on Facebook who took part in helping her search for her much-loved pet.
