Open every Friday, the Horizons Recovery Café in Dalkeith is run to help people who are recovering from drugs and alcohol addictions.
Based at Dalkeith Baptist Church, it provides a safe place for people at various stages of recovery to work and learn new skills.
The project which is run by MELDAP (Midlothian and East Lothian Drug and Alcohol Partnership) recently received £20,000 in funding and is beginning to establish itself as a hit with locals who enjoy the home cooked food.
Head chef George Lawrie, said: “It’s really good to work with people who know what you’re going through.
“It’s also giving me fantastic work experience and a reference to help me get a job in the future.
“It’s given me my pride back and something to focus on.”
