Beeslack High School pupils honoured for work in Penicuik community

Senior Beeslack Community High School pupils have been praised for their work in the Penicuik community.
The S6 students were presented with honours at the annual leavers' award ceremony.

Head teacher Maarten Versteeg was hosting his last award ceremony. He leaves Beeslack at the end of term.

He spoke about the many contributions the S6 pupils had
made to the school and their local community. They have been involved in Support for Learning, paired reading and multiplication tables, homework clubs, parents' evenings, working with primary schools, and Midlothian Befrienders.

The Community Quaich, presented by Mr Fearnley, was awarded to Lieke Tolkamp for services to the school and the community.

The Kathy Nisbet Brown Award for Excellence in the Arts was shared between Alexandra MacFadzen for singing and her contribution to the music department, and to Mark Patterson for writing, directing and performing in Beeslack's Best Show. The award was presented by Mr Purvis.

The Donald Scarr Award for Supporting Others was made to Fiona Leith for her volunteering work in the community and her huge involvement in Support for Learning at Beeslack. It was presented by Mr Waterston.

Delia Stewart presented the Peter Stewart Award for Supporting Others to Leanne Donaldson for her leadership of the junior dance group.
