A MIDLOTHIAN village hall has gone from strength to strength thanks to European funding.
Two years ago, Howgate Village Hall received £10,691 from Tyne Esk Leader + and used the grant to employ a development worker.

The hall is now being used almost every day with approximately 200 people passing through the doors each work. Organisat
ions using the hall include the church, Howgate WRI, the bridge club, an art club, a readers’ group, youth club, lace group and community council. It is also used for pilates, lunches, school holiday clubs, ballroom dancing, parties and other lets.

Howgate Village Association is grateful to Tyne Esk Leader + for the grant, which has helped to establish a sense of community in Howgate and the surrounding area.

The association wishes to continue to maximise the use of the village hall by letting it out to groups or individuals for all kinds of events and activities. The hall has a kitchen equipped to professional catering standards and all facilities comply with current regulations. For further information, please contact HVHA on 01968 674741 or 672277.

The hall will be the venue for a number of events in the coming weeks, including an art exhibition on Friday May 9 from 4pm to 9pm and on Saturday May 10 from 10am to 5pm.

There will also be a car boot sale on May 10 from 10am to noon and an indoor country market on Saturday June 7 from 10am to 2pm. To reserve a space, contact 01968 672277.

Villagers will now also be able to enjoy the benefits of new parking facilities and easier access to the hall and kirk.

Work on the new amenities, including fencing, hedging, and the planting of shrubs and trees, has been completed with the help of a grant of £69,610 from the Community Environmental Renewal Scheme (CERS).
