A Mayfield girl's design for the jacket of a new thriller was judged just the job.
Rebecca Morgan, a primary seven pupil at Mayfield Primary School, saw her design picked for the cover of an exciting new book set in the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange.

Fire Mask, by author Franzeska G. Ewart, was written with the help of children from Lawfield, Newtongrange, Mayfield, Stobhill, Gorebridge and Moorfoot primary schools.

Rebecca's terrifying vision impressed the judges of a competition to design the cover because of her use of bold colours – and because her entry was quite simply the scariest.

The quality of the entries was so high, that the judges decided the following six pupils' entries were highly commended: Rebecca Russell of P7B, Newtongrange Primary School; Holli Smith of P7A, Mayfield Primary School; Billy Adams, P 5 (Mrs McKenzie) Lawfield Primary School

David Halley, P7B, Newtongrange Primary School; Samuel Grainger, P7A, (Mrs Robinson) Newtongrange Primary School and Cameron Chisholm, P5, (Mrs McKenzie) Lawfield Primary School.
