Troops bound for Afghanistan

Around 100 local soldiers flew out to Afghanistan early yesterday morning (Wednesday). The troops from C Company from the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland left Dreghorn Barracks for a six-month deployment to Helmand province. They will take on a variety of roles including training and mentoring the Afghan security forces. The battalion, which traditionally recruits from the Lothians, Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway, will form part of the Catterick-based 4 Mechanise
C Company Commanding Officer Major Richard Forsyth said there was some “apprehension” amongst the soldiers at going to Afghanistan. “I think the soldiers are at a stage that, although no-one wants to leave family, friends and loved ones,
