Work has started on the new Lidl store in Penicuik.
The shop, based at Imrie Place, is scheduled to open in spring 2009.

It is expected to create between 20 to 30 full and part-time jobs.

The work also includes the redevelopment of the road layout and car parking nearby.

A Lidl spokesman said the store would have a 11,000 sq ft sales floor. The company is opening seven new units in the coming months.

"It will be a modest development but certainly be able to meet the needs of the community," he added.

"We are looking forward to serving this part of Midlothian. This will be an opportunity for people in Midlothian to see what we are really about."
