What’s on television this weekend?
Celebrity MasterChef (Friday BBC1, 8.30pm)
The six remaining celebrity cooks continue to battle for the MasterChef title as they enter the semi-finals.
The first challenge sees them prepare a classic dish after selecting a bench of mystery ingredients at random, before catering for the Chelsea Pensioners.
The Marvellous World of Roald Dahl (Saturday, BBC2, 8pm)
September marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth, and the centrepiece of the BBC’s celebration is this documentary, which reminds us that Dahl’s own story was as gripping as any of his novels.
After being a fighter pilot, then a spy, he became an inventor. When his son Theo suffered from hydrocephalus, he helped develop a valve to alleviate the condition.
Robot Wars (Sunday, BBC2, 8pm)
A lot has changed since the series trundled out of the arena – in 2004, we didn’t have Twitter or iPhones, and Facebook was in its infancy. So, as Robot Wars comes back, all guns blazing and blades whirring, will we also notice some big breakthroughs in fighting machine technology?
Dara O Briain, who hosts this series withAngela Scanlon, thinks so, pointing out that the house robots have all undergone upgrades since we last saw them.
