A matter of taste for Midlothian chef

Pie oh pie, you might wonder, would a winner of BBC Masterchef be tempted to associate himself with the humble Scotch pie?

Dalkeith’s Gerry Goldwyre might well have been asking himself that same question as he headed to the recent World Scotch Pie Championships in Dunfermline.

Held at Carnegie College on November 15, the competition attracted 86 entries from north and south of the border. Returning there to present awards to winning pie makers last Thursday, Gerry, who runs the Water Tower restaurant, said: “I was really impressed by the standard of pie.”
