Locals in Bonnyrigg are going quackers with excitement ahead of the town’s 12th Annual Midwinter Duck Race.

And rumour has it that a number of Edinburgh Rugby players will be on the bill.

Ducks will go on sale from 10am on December 1 at Cockpen and Carrington Church Hall (Bonnyrigg Christmas Fair) and then at Tesco Hardengreen store on December 17. They will also be available from 1pm on race day, January 27.

Prizes include: dinner for two at Dalhousie Castle Hotel and Spa; a whisky map of Scotland, signed by South African Rugby World Cup winning captain John Smit; lunch for two at Dalhousie Castle Hotel and Spa; a map of 2012 Tour de France route signed by Basque cyclist and Olympic Road Race champion Samuel Sanchez.

All funds raised will go towards Children 1st and the Scottish Huntington’s Association.

Organiser Bill MacDonald said: “We are delighted to have been given backing by the new owner, Rev Robert Parker, of Dalhousie Castle and Spa. I am hoping to have one or more players from Edinburgh Rugby along in January.”
