All aboard purple bus

Parents, teachers and children are invited to hop on board the big purple PlayTalkRead bus this autumn.

The bus arrives in Midlothian next Monday (October 22) for two weeks, and onboard there are plenty of free activities that won’t cost a penny, including storytelling, rhymes and songs from the Scottish Book Trust’s BookBug sessions.

Aileen Campbell, Minister for Children and Young People, said: “The first three years in a child’s life are critical to their development, and that’s why we’re investing in this new, greener PlayTalkRead bus. As it tours Scotland, it’s a chance for parents and carers to get involved playing, talking and reading with their tots.”

The purple bus is due to be at the following venues from 10am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4pm: Mayfield Leisure Centre – October 22 and 23; Gorebridge Leisure Centre – October 24 and 25; Hand in Hand project in Woodburn – October 26; Loanhead Leisure Centre – October 29 and 30; Penicuik YMCA YWCA – October 31 and November 1; Mount Esk Nursery School Bonnyrigg – November 2.
