The latest round of community consultations for the replacement Newbattle High School has left a community council fuming.

The consultation process into the controversial plans for the new school, across the road from its current location, complete with a community hub, will recommence next week with architects Cooper Cromar hosting events during the day in Mayfield, Gorebridge and Newtongrange.

Mayfield Community Council chairman Robert Hogg is angry that these will take place while most people are at work.

Speaking at last week’s community council meeting, he said: “This is probably the biggest thing to happen here in 30-40 years, so local people should have as good a chance as possible to have their say. This is typical though. It’s just crazy.”

The consultation events are on Thursday, September 19, 10am-2pm at Newbattle High School and 3-7pm at Mayfield Library; and Friday, September 20, 10am-2pm at Newtongrange Library and 3-7pm at Gorebridge Library.
