A NEW bid to create a vegetable patch in Newbattle has re-ignited debate about use of public open space.
Duncan Morrison wants to extend his rear garden at Newbattle Abbey Crescent, but Midlothian Council has refused planning permission.
Planners believe the loss of 180-square metres of ground would be detrimental to the character of the area and set a precedent for further development.
But Mr Morrison has appealed, calling on the council’s Local Review Body (LRB) to overturn the refusal.
