Are you eligible to vote?

With the Scottish Local Council elections taking place on Thursday, May 3, it might seem as though you have plenty of time to check you can vote.

However, you only have until Wednesday, April 18, to add your name to the electoral register. Anyone who misses that deadline will not be able to vote in the forthcoming elections.

Registering to vote is quick and easy. The Election Registration Officer (ERO) compiles and maintains the electoral register for Midlothian.

The ERO is asking you to check that you are registered to vote at your current address, particularly if you have changed address in the last few months.

You can check if you are registered by phoning the Electoral Registration Office on 0131 344 2500.

To encourage as many people to register and vote and to check they are on the register, the council is holding an electoral registration competition. It has three Kindles to give away as prizes.

To enter simply phone the ERO telephone number 0131 344 2500 and quote ‘MidVote’ in the conversation.

Alternatively, you can email election@lothian-vjb.gov.uk giving your name and address and quote MidVote in the subject line.
