Arthur’s late-minute header seals win for Lily

Easthouses 2-1 Stoneyburn
Easthouses 2-1 Stoneyburn

Stoneyburn kicked things off but within the first 30 seconds Easthouses should have been 1-0 up when Ally Elliot was put clean through on goal but screwed his shot wide.

Easthouses were in control and took the lead in the 15th minute when Graeme Young slotted home.

Easthouses kicked off the second half and again should have increased their lead but missed chances came back to haunt them as Stoneyburn started to get a foothold in the game.

The visitors equalised in the 65th minute from the penalty spot after Steven Campbell had upended Stoneyburn’s Graeme Millar and Joseph Brady slotted the spot kick into the corner of the Lily net to make it 1-1.

At this stage both teams were going all out for the winner, with Stoneyburn looking the more likely to get it.

However, it came Easthouses’ way in the 89th minute from a Paul McDermott corner as David Arthur rose above everyone and bulleted his header into the net to give the hosts all three points and a third straight win.

All in all, a hard-fought game in which a point apiece might have been a fair result – but Lily gladly accepted all three points .

Next up for Easthouses is a home game against Kirkcaldy YM this coming Saturday.
