Assaults may be linked – police

Police believe that assaults which took place in Bonnyrigg last Friday and Sunday may be linked.

At about 11.45pm on Friday night, a 43-year-old man was assaulted in Dundas Street. Taken to the Royal Infirmary, he was later transferred to St John’s Hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

The man has no recollection of the assault, and has since been discharged from hospital.

In the second incident, three men were injured following a disturbance in a bar at Waverley Terrace at around 7.15pm on Sunday.

A 21-year-old man suffered a fractured shoulder, a 26-year-old man needed stitches for a cut to the head, and a 26-year-old man was treated for minor injuries.

A police spokesman said: “At the moment we are keeping an open mind but there is a chance these incidents may be linked. We are appealing for anyone who may have seen either of these incidents to get in touch on 0131 311 3131.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
