Gas pipe work will mean Auchendinny will not have a bus service for at least two weeks.

Scottish Gas Networks is due to begin pipe-laying at the A701-Belwood Road-Grahams Road junction at Glencorse from Monday, January 11.

The work is expected to take at least two weeks, possibly three, depending on the underground conditions and weather.

During this time Lothian Buses’ Service 40 will not be able to serve Auchendinny, but will run along the A701 via Milton Bridge instead.

A special pre-booked taxi service will run between the A701 and Auchendinny during the following hours when the Service 40 normally runs -

Mondays to Fridays from 5.49am to 11.20pm, and Saturdays from 7.24am to 11.20pm.

Passengers can travel to/from any bus stop on the A701 between Glencorse Barracks and Gowkley Moss roundabout – please advise the taxi operator which bus stop when booking.

In Auchendinny, special taxi service passengers can request to be picked up or set down at their home address.

Lothian Buses is not expecting people to walk to their nearest normal bus stop to catch the taxi.

Call Penicuik Taxis on 01968 679600 to book a taxi. Passengers will not be charged – it is to be “free at the point of use”. The bill for the taxi fares will be met by SGN.

There will be no need to show a card or pass to the taxi driver to use this special taxi service on Mondays to Saturdays. Exclusive use of the taxi is not guaranteed - passengers booking a similar journey at a similar time will be asked to travel together, space permitting.

There is no route change to the Mondays to Fridays peak journeys on First X70 between Auchendinny and Edinburgh City Centre.

The Service 40 does not serve Auchendinny on Sundays. There is already a Ring & Go scheme to give local residents a public transport link on Sundays. This service will remain unchanged during the closure of Grahams Road.

Please note the Ring & Go scheme does require the passenger to hold a Ring & Go card. Ring & Go application forms are available at all Midlothian libraries. Ring & Go journeys are charged at £1.50 single.

According to the Midlothian Council website, the SGN roadworks will mean Belwood Road, Penicuik, will be closed between A701 Edinburgh Road and Belwood Crescent from January 11 for approximately five weeks. Grahams Road, Penicuik, will be closed from A701 Edinburgh Road for 15 metres also from January 11 for approximately five weeks for works by SGN.
