A MIDLOTHIAN battleground that is more than 700 years old has been given national recognition.

The Battle of Roslin is one of 11 sites being added to Scotland’s Inventory of Historic Battlefields, which will be used to help protect and manage their future in relation to planning issues.

The local 1303 conflict is one of the earliest battle sites to be included in a list of 39 locations that mark the nation’s bloody heritage from the 13th to the 17th centuries.
