Pupils from Penicuik have claimed their own record in the fight against litter.

More than 800 pupils and members of staff from Beeslack Community High School gathered together for the biggest litter pick in Scotland.

Supported by Keep Scotland Beautiful, the litter squads carried out the clean-up in the school grounds and the adjacent Beeslack Woods, where bigger items had been dumped.

The school managed to collect 58 bags of litter and recycleables, mainly plastic bottles, as well as lots of items which were too big to be bagged.

These included two shopping trolleys, which were recovered from the burn and returned to Tesco’s, car parts, tyres, a pram, traffic signs, children’s toys, a huge bag of clothes, lots of traffic cones – and a metal dustbin!
