A BENCH is to be placed at Newbattle High School in memory of a former pupil who died from cancer.
Brandon Hall from Newtongrange was just 19 when he died in February this year, after a 20-month battle with cancer.
Dobbies Garden Centre has donated a bench to the family, which with a plaque in memory of Brandon, will be placed in the school’s garden later this month.
His grandmother Mrs Irene Hall has raised £1,680 in a month towards the memorial fund for her grandson, with some of this paying for the plaque to go on the bench. She is delighted with the donation from Dobbies and was touched by the turnout at a recent fundraiser.
She said: “We got the plaque yesterday, and we can’t thank Dobbies enough. It was an honour to organise the fundraiser for him. Everybody had a great night and they really respect my family.
“Brandon was such a lovely boy - so well behaved and well mannered. We all miss him so much.”
The family will continue to raise funds for a special bench featuring Brandon’s favourite animal, a snow leopard, to be placed near Brandon’s headstone.
They are also collecting funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
