The best boys and girls have been chosen for this year’s Mayfield and Easthouses Gala Day, with the main man behind it hoping for good weather.
This year’s gala takes place in Mayfield Park on June 4 from 1.30pm to 4pm, with the parade leaving Easthouses Miners’ Club at 1pm before heading to the main event.
Mayfield and Easthouses Gala Day Committee chairman Robert Hogg has been involved in the gala since 1990, just after a year after the event was resurrected.
He said: “I just hope the weather is alright.
“There has been a lot of organisation gone into it. And the council has been great again.
“I just hope the crowds turn out and the weather is good.
“We will have wrestling in the park, with six to eight tag teams taking part,” said Mr Hogg.
“We have a children’s corner so that will be part of that.
“We will have the usual clowns, musicians, dancers. The normal gala day stuff. Kids rides and things like that.
“It will all be opened by Mabel Currie, an elder of Mayfield Church.
“She is heavily involved in local community groups and very well known locally,” he added.
“And of course we will have all the best boys and girls on the stage too.
“The local community always supports the local gala day, which is fantastic.”
