Two big horticultural shows, both featuring a riot of colour and prizes aplenty, took place on Saturday in Midlothian.

Penicuik Horticultural Society’s 162nd autumn show took place at Ladywood Leisure Centre.

And Pathhead and District Horticultural Society held their 64th annual flower show in Pathhead Community Hall.

In Penicuik, the Hilda Williams Cup went to Bill Daily.

John Kennedy picked up the J Crichton Vase, Iain Silver walked away with the Dalmahoy Challenge Cup for his roses and David Green won the Maybank Quaich.

Ruth Kynoch picked up the Society Trophy and the Robert Melrose Cup went to Keith Brand.

In Pathhead Andy Banks won the Pathhead Premier Award.

The Dr Alexander Laurie Quaich went to Jackie Davidson who also won the Callander Cup for best garden.

The Rosemains Rose Bowl for most points open classes went to Jock Smith and Jackie Davidson.

Other winners included Fiona Meikle, David Crichton and Margaret Allan.
