Bob is new Midlothian Council leader

bob Constable has been named as the new leader of Midlothian Council after the sudden departure of the county’s first female chief Lisa Beattie.

Councillor Beattie had been in office for just five weeks when the ruling SNP group at Midlothian Council accepted her resignation last week.

A special meeting was called on Tuesday to elect a new leadership, which saw Councillor Constable (above left) chosen as leader and Owen Thompson as deputy. Labour’s proposal of Derek Milligan for leader and Jim Muirhead as deputy was defeated by nine votes to seven.
