A Bonnyrigg man who killed his wife and young son has been sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh.
Garry Lockhart (33) was sentenced to life with a minimum of 25 years after being found guilty of killing Janet Lockhart (29) and their two-year-old son, Michael, at their home in South Chesters Lane in the early hours of December 28 last year.
Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham from the Major Investigation Team said: “I acknowledge the sentence of Garry Lockhart but my thoughts are first and foremost with Janet and Michael’s family, who have been devastated by his incomprehensible actions.
“No sentence can alleviate their pain and I would like to pay tribute to them for their immense dignity and strength throughout the investigation and trial.
“I also want to praise and thank all the police officers, police staff, partner agencies and the local community for their professionalism and support throughout these traumatic and difficult circumstances.”
