Burnbrae Primary School took part in the Scottish International Storytelling Festival last month.

Their show, Once Upon a Hallowe’en, was performed by P6 and P7 pupils. The pupils worked with Midlothian Sure Start’s Dads co-ordinator Tim Porteus, who is also a registered storyteller and writer.

It was a mixture of traditional tales and stories created by the pupils themselves. Many of the pupils rehearsed during their golden time, and one of the objectives was to encourage parental involvement and support in the creative process.

Tim said: “It was a fantastic show, pulled together at short notice. The pupils, with the support of teachers and parents, delivered a slick and powerful performance that stole the festival limelight.”
