Bonnyrigg service to mark workers’ rights

The annual service to mark the International Workers’ Memorial Day will be held in King George V Park, Bonnyrigg, on Saturday at 12.30pm.

The event, which will take place at the memorial flowerbed, is organised by the Midlothian Trades Union Council.

This year’s address will be given by Michael McGahey, branch secretary of Unison at NHS Lothian.

International Workers Memorial Day (IWMD) is recognised by events across the Lothians and world on April 28 each year.

The purpose of the day is two-fold. Firstly, it is about remembering those who have died, been injured, or made ill by their work.
