Brakes put on council’s speed limit decision

Calls for a 20mph speed limit in Lasswade are to be reconsidered by Midlothian Council’s cabinet.

The rethink follows pressure from the council’s Performance and Scrutiny Committee, which has ‘called-in’ a recent decision to defer the implementation of a reduced speed limit in the village.

Committee chairman Councillor Derek Milligan (Lab) said: “After six accidents in recent months, three of which were very serious, we felt that more urgent action was needed and the committee decided unanimously to recommend to cabinet that the restrictions are implemented as soon as possible and that pilots in other hotspots throughout Midlothian are also considered.”
