The 5th Dalkeith Brownie Pack recently received high-viz vests to help them to be seen and stay safe on trips around the local area.

Taylor Wimpey East Scotland donated the vest to help keep the brownies out and about during the darker winter months.

Brown Owl for 5th Dalkeith Brownies, Sarah van der Walt is delighted with the donation to her pack. She revealed that it also means the girls can go on more trips outwith their base at St Johns and King’s Park Church Hall, where they meet every Wednesday, 6-7.15pm during school term.

She said: “Our girls love to be out and about in the local community, and we also encourage them to take part and achieve their road safety badge that teaches them how to keep themselves safe when they are out. However, the Brownies wear a brown uniform and that’s just not an ideal colour for being noticed in the darker months.

“We approached Taylor Wimpey East Scotland to see if they’d be able to help with children’s versions of their high-visibility vests that are worn on their construction sites, and we were delighted when they said they’d be happy to help.

“It means that we can take the girls out any time of the year, and feel reassured that they can be seen by motorists and other road users.

“And having our pack name on the vests means the girls are easily identifiable if we’re in larger groups at events – we’re really thrilled with how smart they all look.”

Karen Armstrong is regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, which is currently building new homes at The Scholars in Dalkeith. She was happy to help the local Brownies stay safe and be seen during the darker winter months.

She said: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our high-quality new homes and we were delighted to be able to make this contribution to 5th Dalkeith Brownies which we know will help to keep the girls safe on their outdoor adventures in the local area.”
