Excitement is building ahead of next week’s Midlothian East ward by-election, with candidates keen to have one last stab at winning over constituents through the columns of the Advertiser.

Following the resignation of councillor Peter Boyes (Ind) in August due to health reasons, a new face will soon be joining current sitting councillors Lisa Beattie (SNP) and Peter de Vink (Ind) in serving the sizeable geographical ward which takes in communities including Dalkeith, Easthouses, Mayfield, Eskbank and Cousland.

Next Thursday (Nov 27), polling stations will be open from 7am-10pm at Dalkeith Arts Centre, Mayfield Leisure Centre, St David’s RC Primary School, Mayfield & Easthouses Church Hall, Cousland Village Hall and Pathhead Pavilion Callendar Park.

Ballots will be counted under the Single Transferable Vote (STV) system, starting at 10am the following day at Mayfield Leisure Centre.

The result is expected to be announced at around 3pm.

In this week’s Advertiser, out now, the candidates make a case for why they should win your vote and be elected to represent Midlothian.
